About Togatta Kokeshi

Togatta Kokeshi (鴓山系こけし) originate from the Togatta Onsen hot spring resort in Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku – one of Japan's eleven traditional Kokeshi producing regions. Togatta Kokeshi are celebrated for their distinctive, elegant form – a slender, graceful body with a large, beautifully painted head, adorned with delicate chrysanthemum and plum blossom motifs in rich, warm colours. Each piece is turned on a lathe and hand-painted by a trained craftsman, making every Kokeshi a unique and irreplaceable work of art.
