The Story

The Sola Cube Slice was born from a beautiful act of Japanese craftsmanship philosophy – mottainai (もったいない – “too good to waste”). A 5cm dandelion Sola Cube that did not meet the exacting product standards of the Kyoto atelier was given a second life – sliced into three precise sections, with acrylic plates placed between each slice to hold them apart and reveal what was previously impossible to see. The result is a completely new way of experiencing the botanical specimen – the cross-section of the dandelion seed head, the intricate internal formations of the fluffy pappus, and the hidden architecture of the stem, all revealed in extraordinary detail. A Sola Cube reimagined – and made even more fascinating in the process.
