Capture the quiet poetry of the Japanese forest – forever – with this beautiful Karamatsu Larch Sola Cube, made in Kyoto, Japan. A breathtaking botanical specimen, perfectly preserved in crystal-clear resin, bringing the serene beauty of Japan's mountain woodlands into your home all year round.
The Specimen
This Sola Cube contains a real, dried Karamatsu Larch (Larix kaempferi – 唐松) cone – one of Japan's most distinctive and beloved native conifers. The name Karamatsu (唐松 – “Chinese Pine”) comes from the way its delicate needle-like leaves are arranged in clusters, reminiscent of the pine trees depicted in classical Chinese-style painting (kara-e). The Karamatsu is Japan's only native deciduous conifer – its soft green needles turning a beautiful golden yellow in autumn before falling, making it a uniquely poetic presence in the Japanese mountain landscape. When the cone dries, it opens naturally – releasing its winged seeds to travel far on the wind – a quiet, elegant miracle of nature, now preserved forever in resin.
The Sola Cube
Each Sola Cube is a meticulously handcrafted botanical display object, made by skilled artisans in Kyoto – Japan's ancient capital and the heartland of Japanese craft tradition. Real botanical specimens sourced from nature are carefully dried and then perfectly preserved within a flawless cube of crystal-clear resin – suspending them in a moment of pure, timeless beauty. No two cubes are exactly alike.
