This BBQ sauce is a distinctive Japanese condiment that fuses traditional barbecue flavours with the unique qualities of shochu, a Japanese distilled spirit. This combination creates a rich, complex sauce ideal for enhancing various dishes but particularly good for grilled and barbecued items.
The Hayakawa Shoyu Miso company has been established since 1885 during the Meiji era in Japan, they have always challenged themselves to produce the most flavourful sauces using only natural ingredients.
Shochu is a traditional Japanese distilled spirit made from ingredients such as barley, sweet potatoes, rice or buckwheat. It imparts a subtle alcoholic undertone, enhancing depth and complexity and contributing a mild, earthy flavour that complements the other ingredients of soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger and yuzu juice.
How to use
The sauce has a thick, rich and smooth consistency, making it ideal for coating and marinating meats.
This sauce is excellent for marinating various meats, including beef, pork and chicken. The shochu helps to tenderise the meat and infuse it with a deep, rich flavour, making it perfect for grilling or barbecuing.
It works well as a glaze for seafood such as salmon, prawns or scallops, adding a sweet, savoury and tangy element that complements the delicate flavour and natural sweetness of the seafood.
Containing soy sauce, it is ideal as a dipping sauce for grilled vegetables, dumplings, or skewers.
